The Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) and the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP) propose a series of intensive seminars and ateliers on the theme of health, in India and beyond. Issues of public health, pharmaceuticals, bioethics, medical practices and institutions will be explored by a group of French and Indian professors. The “Summer School” is directed to a limited number of selected Indian and European students and junior researchers. The aim of the Summer School is to strengthen Franco-Indian scientific cooperation and to prepare the ground for future collaboration.
Who Are We? After logging, participants will find in the “Shared Web” section of this website the lists of teachers and students who meet in Pondicherry with their e-mail address. This website is thus an archive and a tool for constructing a scientific network, still in its nascent state. Indian and French professors giving presentations in Pondicherry are distributed over the following scientific disciplines and social sciences:
They have agreed to participate in an attempt at the construction of an interdisciplinary field around Social Sciences, Health, Medicine and Bioethics.
How to use and contribute to this website We acknowledge the prevalence of a diglossia between the English and the French language. Most of this website's pages will be written in English, although we will not hesitate to keep to French, for the time being, whenever it is more convenient to us in our current collaborative work. This website is a tool for networking and constructing a field of research, and we are not ashamed to go on line in a most informal manner. Participants received a username and password giving them access to the “Shared Web” section of this website, from where texts and documents in various formats such as PDF (.pdf), Word (.doc) and Powerpoint (.ppt) may be downloaded. They constitute our private working digital library. It must be understood that this website currently is under construction. Although a significant amount of information and documents are already available in the following pages, there remain major gaps that will be filled only very progressively during and after our meetings. Please forgive us for any important document now missing, and be so kind as to mail the webmaster (Francis Zimmermann) a copy of any text or document which you happen to have at hand and would like to share with us. One of our objectives is to consolidate the presentations and documents published on this website into a structured data base covering an emergent interdisciplinary field of research around Social Sciences, Health, Medicine and Bioethics.
